Over the three years at Staffordshire University I completed some work placement opportunities. All of my placements that I completed were very crucial to my development as a journalist, these placements are listed and roles explained below. They were at GiveMeSport in Central London, AFC Wimbledon in South London and Hednesford Town Football Club.
14th July 2014- 25th July 2014 placement at
- GIVEMESPORT- I knew that this company is a very popular sports news outlet giving right up the minute sports news and updates about a range of different sports. So this appealed to me straight away. I was writing specific news, feature and opinion pieces on the latest developments in the world of sport. This placement also had a broadcast element to it for me to complete, which meant compiling the script and doing a one minute piece to camera for their website.
20th January 2015- 24th January 2015 placement at
- AFC Wimbledon- I was very happy to be a part of this club during my time there because they are a great professional side and have a rich history and a great crop of players there. Also as my first placement was an online sports content provider, I wanted my second placement to be at somewhere like a football club so that I could get right in with the thick of it and get involved as best as I could with day to day journalism tasks. I wrote feature pieces and completed work for the clubs website, interviewing first team players and editing video from that.
15th February 2015- 25th May 2015 placement at
- Hednesford Town FC- I worked for Hednesford Town Football club voluntarily for three months, where I filmed their games and player interviews. Furthermore I then used my editing skills that I had learnt, to edit together a slick highlights package on every game, posting this onto YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and their own website. I enjoyed this as it allowed me to showcase my filming and editing skills. Other times I have done this is in my video and audio packages.
